Spirit lives in the american prairie and enjoys his freedom. That ends when he gets captured by a colonel who wants to tame him and succeeds with that. But spirit receives help from the young Indian Little Creek who frees him. Together they flee into the regained freedom, but with a high price for the mustang: his rescuer wants him as a horse to ride on, too.
